Day 1 — M’Hamid → acacia oases: the desert opens up

8:30am, Café La Rose du Sud, M’Hamid El Ghizlane. Lahsan and the team are there. The 4×4 is loaded. The tarmac disappears within minutes — and the Sahara takes over.

The first landscapes are a revelation. Sandy tracks wind between rocky plateaux. Scattered desert trees dot the horizon.
